not strictly a grammar question, but why are restaurants called "rincon". I guess that it is something like a "cornerhouse" ie a gathering place, si?

Hi Liz,

'Rincón' also has the meaning of 'nook', so this name is given to many restaurants to give them a sort of cosy glow. It is supposed to imply a snug, intimate, inviting place to eat.

All the restaurants called Rincon I´ve seen were indeed on corners leading me to use the word (wrongly) for corner. I live on one and directed the taxi driver last night only to be told by son that the rincon is the inside of the corner not the outside (his way of putting it at 12) . He told me I should have said esquina.
